About

Hi, my name is Luke. I have always loved to create art - music, visual art, photography... anything that allows me to express myself freely. That same creativity is what drives me to build beautiful, useful software. Right now, I'm specifically interested in how artificial intelligence software can be used to benefit society, rather than hurt it.

In my freetime, I also love playing and teaching myself guitar, writing music, obsessing over well built, high quality clothing, and spending time in the mountains in all seasons with my beloved dog Mac.

Projects

  1. Hearth

    AI-powered weekly meal planner

Hearth turns a few questions into a week of dinners and the grocery run to match. A guided questionnaire captures allergies, diet, tastes, effort and budget, then Claude generates a structured meal plan — using forced tool-use for clean JSON and prompt caching to keep it fast and cheap. From there it builds an AI recipe library and an auto-generated grocery list priced against your chosen store (e.g. King Soopers), budget-aware and kept in sync: change a preference and Hearth flags the now-stale plan or list and offers to regenerate. Accounts and saved plans sit behind NextAuth login.

Professional Experience

  1. July 2021 - Present

    Software Engineer

    Cotality
    • Architected and launched a customer-facing geospatial insurance platform end-to-end — empowering insurers to interrogate 150M+ property assets against live weather telemetry for near-real-time, portfolio-scale risk intelligence. Anchored by a patented data-modeling engine that defined the category where no blueprint existed.
    • Reimagined core infrastructure from first principles — slashing pipeline runtime 85%, infrastructure spend 75%, and report-generation costs north of 90% through precision optimization across the full stack.
    • Spearheaded the migration of legacy systems to a microservices architecture, shaped the technical hiring bar, and pioneered the team's embrace of agentic coding tools — engineering the guardrails and standards that keep AI-accelerated output reliable at scale.
  2. Summer 2020

    Software Engineer Intern

    Visa, Inc.

Internal Hackathon finalist — shipped amidst simultaneously onboarding a brand-new puppy and improvising through the surreal turbulence of a global pandemic.
